The Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC) at James Cook University Hospital, claimed top honours at the MMC Awards 2025.
Taking home the Project of the Year (Primary), this is a well-deserved recognition of how innovative modular design is transforming healthcare delivery.
The standout project sets a benchmark for modern healthcare construction. Delivered using off-site modular methods, the UTC was completed in just 32 weeks, a full 12 weeks ahead of a traditional build, enabling faster access to vital services while minimising disruption to the existing hospital site.
Seamlessly connected to the Emergency Department, the new UTC has boosted patient flow, increased capacity, and eased pressure on frontline services. It stands as a powerful demonstration of how MMC can deliver speed, flexibility, and real-world clinical impact.
Frances Bowden of South Tees, North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust said, “The space has been praised for creating a welcoming environment that feels less clinical and more comforting. Patients have remarked that the design has made them feel more at ease, ultimately providing a sense of confidence in their surroundings.”
This project proves how modern construction can directly elevate patient care. With its calm, patient-friendly design and future-ready modular build, the UTC is built smarter, delivered faster, and designed entirely around the needs of its users.
