In 1967, company founder Geoffrey Robinson was part of the East Midlands Gas Board team involved in the first pilot conversion of town gas to natural gas in England.
With his experience the Company was formed in 1971 in Hutton Rudby, primarily to play a part in the expansion of the gas industry resulting from the introduction of Natural Gas. It quickly became a major player in converting process & boiler plant from coal & oil to natural gas & dual fuel firing.
The company was the first contractor in the North East to undertake meter outlet gas pipe installation using the new Polyethylene material with installation teams trained by the pipe manufacturer. As larger diameters became available, Geoffrey Robinson Limited once found that it had received its first 250mm butt fusion machine before the Northern Gas Board.
The company remains within the North East having relocated on three occasions, within Billingham, to facilitate expansion.
Providing heat energy the Company developed by providing heating systems logically lead onto being able to offer a comprehensive range of building engineering services. This included the installation of steam boiler plant & pipe work. More recently, GRL now offers renewable energy & carbon reduction services.
