Freeman Hospital, Day Treatment Centre

Project Info

What We Did

The Day Treatment Centre was a £25m project at the Freeman Hospital, Newcastle. The theatre now houses four new state-of-the-art theatres, along with a dedicated pre-operative ward and post–operative recovery areas, and provides thousands of additional procedures in specialties such as musculoskeletal health (MSK), urology, surgery and cardiothoracic services.

The project addressed several waiting list challenges caused by the pandemic via transfer of suitable day cases from existing theatres to free up space for more complex work, and has since won several awards.

Supporting delivery of the project, Geoffrey Robinson provided extensive building services, which included enabling works across the site, mechanical and electrical installs, plumbing, ductwork, builders works, steelwork and pendant installs, plaster boarding, and testing and commissioning. The project was a comprehensive, multi-disciplinary endeavour which has since resulted in improved functionality for the hospital and greater comfort for patients.
