Design Services
With over five decades of experience in the mechanical, heating and ventilation sectors, Geoffrey Robinson offers an in-house design service. Services can be utilised to support or supplement an existing design team or, in some cases, remove the need for external consultants all together and cover the following disciplines:
- Steam and condensate
- Heating
- Hot and cold water
- Gas
- Compressed air
- Ventilation
- Medical gasses
- Automatic controls.
services
- Site surveys and conditional reports
- 2D CAD drawings
- Detailed site inspections
- Testing and commissioning
- Technical appraisals
- System design
- Life cycle plant appraisal
- Water regulation support
- Legionella technical assistance
- Compliance checks to HTMs/HBMs in health care setting
To complement our in-house design service, the Geoffrey Robinson team also offer expertise across a variety of software capabilities:
- Matterport 3D Capture: Using Matterport PRO 3 cameras allows us to capture detailed scans, primarily for pre- and post-construction purposes. These scans are conducted to aid in project quoting, surveying mechanical systems, creating as-built drawings, and organising operation and maintenance documents. The main types of properties we scan include hospitals, universities, office buildings, and other commercial premises.
The main aim of Matterport 3D scans is to convert the captured area into a 3D Building Information Modelling (BIM) model using software like Revit. This process streamlines design and project management by allowing collective design of different services to prevent collisions. Revit’s generative design function further optimises system design for performance, energy efficiency, and sustainability.
Geoffrey Robinson is also implementing automated manufacturing, which integrates with Revit to streamline the design process by automatically designing and manufacturing ventilation components. This automation reduces both time and labour cost and optimises component shapes to minimise material usage and costs.
- BIM: We are leveraging BIM to enhance building design and project management, from tender to project completion. Despite challenges in BIM implementation, such as resistance to change and cost concerns, Geoffrey Robinson’s investment in 3D cameras for creating digital twins and BIM files facilitates collaboration with all our key stakeholders.
BIM modelling prioritises data for decision-making, enabling analysis of construction costs, schedules, and design performance. Collaboration among departments is crucial for clash detection, avoiding project delays and additional costs. Additionally, we’re venturing into installing Building Energy Management Systems (BEMSs), which can be linked to BIM models for real-time monitoring of building utilities’ performance.
- Asset Tags: Asset tags are used post-construction to aid building owners or contractors in tracking equipment maintenance. By scanning a QR code, personnel can access various documents, including equipment information, operating manuals, maintenance logs detailing installation and upkeep, and schematics illustrating pipework and cabling routes.
