Geoffrey Robinson appoints new Managing Director

Long-standing Managing Director, Neal Robinson, son of the company’s founder, Geoffrey Robinson, has today announced his retirement from the board.

Neal passes the torch to Andy Talbot who will assume the role of managing director following a transition period three-years in the making and will officially retire from the business in March 2025.

Neal grew up in the family business, working during school holidays from an early age but officially joined Geoffrey Robinson Limited in 1988 where he worked his way up through the mechanical division before being appointed to the board in 2004.

He has been pivotal in the growth and diversification of the business which now provides an end-to-end service to clients, covering mechanical, electrical, ventilation, construction management and fire compliance services.

Appointed as Managing Director in 2014, Neal held overall responsibility for the company, following a successful handover from his father, Geoffrey Robinson.

Neal Robinson, said:

“Over the past 8 months, I have taken a step back from the day-to-day running of the business with Andy taking the helm. During that time, we have secured some of our largest contracts, expanded into new regions and continued to deliver the same high standards of workmanship to our clients.

Andy was brought into the business a few years ago as part of my succession plan and the time feels right to complete the transition.”

The company, now with a consistent annual turnover approaching £50m, recently announced its expansion into Yorkshire, with a new office in Leeds, having previously established a presence in Tyneside and Greater Manchester.

Andy Talbot, Managing Director, said:

“Before joining Geoffrey Robinson Limited, I worked with the team for years as part of a supply chain partnership and always had huge respect and admiration for the business.

Neal and Geoff have created a strong, resilient company with fantastic people at its heart. I am honoured to be taking the reins and look forward to building on the strong foundation that we have today.”

Andy joined the business in 2022 as Executive Director bringing with him 20 years of experience in the construction industry.  He will be supported by an existing board consisting of Paul Walker, Operations Director, Sue Bentley, Finance Director and Jim Smithson, Technical Director, who collectively have amassed over 65 years at the Billingham based firm who directly employ over 300 staff and operatives.
